2012 Malibu Downwinder Recap

The first event of the 2012 California Downwind Series was held earlier this month in Malibu, CA. The event brought out another huge turn out of paddlers eager to get out on the water for another fun downwind race...
Unfortunately for down wind enthusiasts, the weather did not cooperate. The day of the race brought classic glassy California weather conditions. Glassy, warm, not a cloud in the sky and head high surf. Perfect for a day at the beach but not so much for a "down wind" event.
None the less, all the athlete's enjoyed an incredible paddle along the California coastline and a killer sunset at the end of the day. Race director Gary Fortune, ZJ's Boarding House, and Honolua provided a great lunch, raffle and awards after the event and everyone left stoked. Some of the crew went for a surf before dark to cap off another great event.
