HSC Riders Choices: Breakfast with the Family
Sunday, November 3rd, 2013
A pre-day breakfast can make an average day spectacular. Whether fueling up for surf, school, or island adventures, Maui has some perfect places to fill your belly and get you started on the right path.
We kindly asked our Honolua Surf Co. Watermen and Waterwomen to share their favorite local spotsfor early morning grinds. Next time you’re on Maui, check out some of the featured establishments frequented by some of our younger riders.
Super grom Ocean Macedo has a sweet tooth and he loves Slappy Cakes located in Lahaina. This fun, family style restaurant is unlike any other pancake house. At Slappy Cakes you cook your own pancakes at your table! You select the batter, the additional fixins ranging from sweet to savory, and cook the pancakes yourself (if you don’t feel like cooking, the friendly staff is willing to help out as well). This place is great for the family and they do offer hearty classic island breakfast options, as well as, gluten-free and vegan menu items.
Big sister Summer Macedo enjoys her breakfast at a quaint coffee house called Espresso Italiano located in Lahaina. This Italian run establishment opens early, serves bagels, paninis, breakfast sandwiches packed with veggies and delicious proteins, and fresh homemade pastries ranging from lilikoi cake, mango bread and brownies. YUMM!
If you’re looking for a breakfast spot with a view, Sierra Lerback recommends and loves to dine at Gazebo Restaurant located in the Napili Shores Hotel. Their must-have macadamia nut pancakes are fluffy, stacked high with whipped cream and come with white chocolate chips. Combo that sweet treat with a large plate of savory fried rice and consider your afternoon naptime right on schedule. Locals recommend calling your order in and taking it to go so you can enjoy the resorts lovely views. Don’t forget to pack your trash!
If you’re crunched on time and need a quick energy boost before hitting the gym or while on your way to surf monstrous Peahi (Jaws), HSC Waterman Isaac Stant loves Mana Foods. This tiny grocery store is packed with lots of healthy options: sugar-free, gluten-free and locally grown products with a fresh deli and bakery to help you. All of this, plus a produce section stocked to the brim make Mana Foods the perfect stop for healthy Hawaiian grinds.
We look forward to sending more island Aloha your way with more features from our team riders in the coming months!
